Goodreads Synopsis:

In Almost Adulting - perfect for budding adults, failing adults, and eaters of microwave mug brownies - Arden tells you how to survive your future adulthood. Topics include:
  1. Making internet friends who are cool and not murders
  2. Flirting with someone in a way to make them think you are cool and not a murderer
  3. Being in an actual relationship where you talk about your feelings in a healthy manner??? To another person???????
  4. Eating enough protein
  5. Assembling a somewhat acceptable adult wardrobe when you have zero dollars
  6. Going on adventures without starting to smell
  7. How sex is supposed to feel, but, like, actually though
By the end of the book - a mash-up of essays, lists and artwork - you'll have learned not only how to dress yourself, how to travel alone, how to talk to strangers online and how to date strangers (in PERSON!), but also how to pass as a real, functioning, appropriately socialized adult.

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I am so ready for this book. And I hope that it will be helpful for me because by the end of this year, I am technically an adult. I have to go out into the world and survive. I am ready for funny and awkward moments with this book. Thank you so much to Jonathan Ball Publishers for being amazing and sending me this book to review. Seriously! You guys are just incredible!

Just a quick thing to note; I have received this book at no costs of my own in exchange for an honest review. With that being said, please note that in no way has receiving this book affected my opinions. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

In some moments of the book it is clear to see that it is Arden who wrote it. Her writing and her speech style are exactly the same. The book felt a lot like a conversation with what seemed to be endless sentences saying the same thing at times. I thought Arden's writing style worked with the style of the book. It felt like she was sitting with me and telling me all of these facts which in an odd way was comforting.

Plot Thoughts: In the case of this book, how I found the advice

I thought the advice in the books was good. There were somethings that I had already known but with it being in the book, it was as if Arden was just validating my thoughts. I also think that this book was more of how I adult instead of a how you can adult which was a double edged sword for me. Because whilst I had enjoyed that Arden shared her findings and experiences, I kinda just wanted the information as straight forward as it could get. I also felt like her experiences were so unique with that there were moments where I couldn't see how I could relate.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I thought this was a great how to book in the sense that you could add what you had learnt to it. It was also very true to Arden, I felt. I definitely see myself giving this book to my friends so that they can take what they can from it. But I also felt like some of the things were already obvious that I wanted a little more from it.

Thank you so much to Jonathan Ball Publishers for providing me a copy of this book! I enjoyed and am interested to see what Arden does next.

Yours in Reading,

Melleny
