Pre-reading Thoughts:

Sci-fi and I have a love-hate relationship. One moment I will love a Sci-fi book, but in the next I can hardly get fifty pages in. This book sounds really good. I cannot wait to start this unique book! I am also excited to start this book because I thought that it got lost in the mail until it magically showed up about two weeks ago.

Writing Thoughts:

The writing in this book was good. It had a lot of detail and it had a nice pace to it. I also really enjoyed the dialogue because it was natural and overall not too bad. This book is told from multiple perspectives, which I believe does help with keeping the pace of the book steady.

Plot Thoughts:

For full disclosure, I do not actually read Sci-Fi that often and when I do, I tend not to like them. Unfortunately, that was the case here. The beginning seemed a bit abrupt until you read about ten pages and from there it is a slow climb. I can't comment on the entire book as I only ended up reading over a hundred pages, but I felt as though not a lot happened in those hundred pages. There were small events that felt like they could have packed a bigger punch, but there wasn't much momentum behind them. There was just too much of an information dump in the beginning. I enjoyed quite a few

Character Thoughts:

I did not connect with any of the characters. I wish I had but I felt like they weren't that accessible. There wasn't a common ground or experiences for me to relate to.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I don't think that this is a bad book. I definitely think that once I get into more Sci-Fi, I will really like this book. I liked the concept, it was unique and very intriguing. The writing was good and created a really good pace. The plot was what made this book slow. I found that there was a lot information dump in the beginning and it didn't let up. I understand that it is needed to help introduce the species, but I felt like it was a little too much at the same time. I did enjoy certain parts in the plot, but they weren't enough to keep me going.
